Shopify Migration

What actually breaks in Shopify migrations, and how we prevent it

Most migration horror stories share three causes: product data exported dirty and imported dirtier, URL structures dropped without a redirect map, and a cutover planned as a weekend miracle. Each one is preventable, but only if the migration is treated as a data-and-SEO project first and a development project second.

Our migrations start from the data model: variants, metafields and collections are mapped and cleaned before a line of storefront code is written. SEO artefacts, URLs, metadata, structured data, are inventoried and carried over. The cutover itself is rehearsed against a copy of production, with a rollback path, so the switch is boring by design.

How we do it

01

Migration Blueprint

Data audit, app-to-feature mapping, URL inventory and a cutover plan with a fixed date and price.

02

Parallel build

The new platform runs next to the live store: data synced, features verified against real orders.

03

Rehearsed cutover

DNS switch in a controlled window, redirects live from minute one, rollback ready but boring.

When it makes sense

01

Apps and transaction fees eat your margin as you scale

02

Checkout, product data or B2B features hit Shopify’s limits

03

You want your platform and data out of a rented ecosystem

FAQ

Migration from Shopify

Can you migrate Shopify subscriptions and customer accounts?

Yes, customers migrate with order history; passwords are re-set via a secure flow (Shopify never exports them), and subscription logic is rebuilt natively so you stop paying an app for it.

Do we keep selling during the migration?

Yes. The old store runs until cutover; the switch happens in a controlled window measured in minutes, not days.

Will we lose SEO in the migration?

No, the migration plan maps every URL, keeps metadata and ships a complete 301 map, so rankings carry over instead of resetting.

Does the store go offline during cutover?

No. The new platform is built and tested next to the live store, and the switch happens in a controlled window with a rollback plan.

What happens to our Shopify apps?

The Blueprint maps every app to a feature: built into the platform, replaced by an integration, or dropped if it earns nothing. You stop paying monthly for features you can own.
